What RookPDF does

RookPDF is a collection of browser-based PDF tools that let you merge, split, compress, convert, rotate, watermark, protect, sign and otherwise work with PDF files without sending them to a server. Every tool runs entirely inside your web browser using standard browser APIs and open-source PDF libraries.

You can combine multiple PDFs into one file, extract specific page ranges, reduce file size for email attachments, convert between PDF and other formats such as Word, JPG and PNG, add page numbers or watermarks, apply password protection, and sign documents locally. The tools work on desktop and mobile browsers without requiring any software installation.

How processing works

When you select a file in RookPDF, the file is read directly from your device by the browser. The PDF is parsed and manipulated using client-side JavaScript libraries such as pdf-lib and pdf.js. Once processing is complete, the result is offered as a local download. At no point during this workflow does the file leave your browser or get transmitted to RookPDF, Rook Dev Studio or any third-party server.

This architecture means there is no upload queue, no server-side processing delay and no cloud storage of your documents. It also means the tools can work offline once the page has loaded, subject to browser memory limits for very large files.

Privacy by design

RookPDF does not collect, store or inspect the content of files you open in the tools. File names and document content never leave your device. The only data RookPDF stores is basic account information for authentication and user preferences such as theme settings, which are saved to your account when you choose to sign in.

Guest Mode allows full access to all PDF tools without creating an account. Analytics and advertising, when enabled, use only anonymized usage data and are subject to the consent controls described in the privacy and cookie policies.
