Step-by-step PDF tutorials

Follow practical workflows for local PDF processing.

Merge multiple PDFs into one file

Combine several PDF documents into a single file without uploading anything to a server.

  1. Open the Merge PDF tool and select the files you want to combine. You can select multiple PDFs at once from your file picker.
  2. Review the file list in the workspace. Files are displayed in the order they will appear in the merged output. Use the reorder controls to change the sequence if needed.
  3. Click the merge or process button. RookPDF opens every selected file in browser memory, copies their pages in order and builds the combined PDF locally.
  4. Download the merged file. The output contains all pages from your selected files in the sequence you chose. Duplicate files with the same name, size and modification time are skipped automatically.

Compress a PDF for email

Reduce PDF file size so it passes email attachment limits while keeping text and images readable.

  1. Open the Compress PDF tool and upload your file. RookPDF reads the file locally and shows a preview with page count and file size.
  2. Choose a compression mode. Balanced mode is recommended for most email use cases. Low compression preserves the highest quality. Strong compression gives the smallest output by re-rasterizing pages.
  3. For custom mode, adjust the image quality slider and toggle options such as metadata removal, object stream compression and image recompression depending on your needs.
  4. Click compress. RookPDF processes the file in your browser and shows the compressed size and estimated savings. Download the result when processing finishes.

Convert images to a PDF

Turn one or more JPG, PNG, WebP or other image files into a single shareable PDF document.

  1. Open the Images to PDF tool and select the image files you want to include. Supported formats include JPG, JPEG, PNG, WebP, BMP, GIF and TIFF.
  2. Preview the images in the workspace. Use the reorder controls to arrange them in the order you want them to appear in the PDF.
  3. Choose page settings such as page size (A4, Letter or auto-size to match the image), orientation and margin preset. You can also enable page numbers if you want a page count printed at the bottom of each page.
  4. Click the generate button. RookPDF embeds each image into a PDF page in your browser. Download the resulting PDF when processing completes.

Protect a PDF with a password

Add password encryption to a PDF before sharing it with others.

  1. Open the Protect PDF tool and upload the file you want to encrypt.
  2. Enter a password of at least four characters in the password field. The tool shows password strength feedback as you type.
  3. Re-enter the same password in the confirm field to verify there are no typos.
  4. Click the encrypt button. RookPDF applies local encryption to the PDF using the pdf-encrypt-lite library and offers the encrypted file as a download. The original unencrypted file is not stored or transmitted.

Convert PDF pages to JPG images

Export individual pages of a PDF as JPG or PNG image files for sharing or editing.

  1. Open the PDF to JPG tool and upload your PDF file. The workspace shows a page count and a preview.
  2. Choose the output format (JPG or PNG), image quality and DPI resolution. Higher DPI produces sharper images but larger files.
  3. Optionally set a page range or select specific pages to convert rather than exporting every page.
  4. Click the render button. RookPDF renders each selected page to a canvas in your browser at the chosen resolution and exports them as image files. For multiple pages, a ZIP archive is created automatically.
